HOUSE OF LIGHT (Shoegaze, Post-Punk, Psych Rock) Born out of Berlin & Melbourne’s squat and warehouse scene, House of Light are an indie band who have recently returned to Australia. Amidst a cinematic, shoegazey mesh of synths and guitars, their lyrics evoke the new romanticism of the 80s and the disillusion of the 90s. Compared to New Order, Radiohead & the Cure, they have played alongside Lydia Lunch, Pete Doherty, and the Drones, and have been interviewed by Andy Rourke of the Smiths. Their most recent album, ‘21st Century Prayer’ was voted Sound & Vision magazine’s #2 album of 2023, and their song “Cold” the #1 single of the year. Malone is known for his bold baritone / tenebrous lyricism often compared to Michael Gira, Jim Morrison, Glenn Danzig + Tex Perkins, carving out a cult following through his intense live performances. On stage, Malone has shared the spotlight with revered figures like Kim Salmon (Beasts of Bourbon) + Hugo Race (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds), performing on stages both nationally / abroad including St. Kilda Blues Festival. In 2023, he released the critically-acclaimed For The Term Of My Natural Life (VRS Records) + followed it up with Made In The Image featuring a version of the blues classic I’m Bad Like Jesse James shared / endorsed by the John Lee Hooker estate. He’s joined by rock n’ roll / swing stickman James W. du Plessis (The Sea Birds) on drums, percussion, cowbell + electric blues slide guitarist Ben McIntyre (Pete Wells Band).
