Mr. Scruff: Die ganze tanzbare Welt der Musik Die ganze tanzbare Welt der Musik: Mr. Scruff liebt es, ausgedehnte DJ-Sets zu spielen, und das macht er schon ziemlich lange. Er hat bereits in unserem Icon aufgelegt und das Gretchen begleitet er von Anfang an. Schön das er mit uns zusammen den 15. Gretchen Geburtstag feiert. In seinen DJ-Sets bewegt Scruff sich stets durch alle Genres – egal ob Jazz, Soul, Funk, Disco, Boogie, Deep House, Reggae, Rocksteady, Dancehall, Afro, Latin, Hip-Hop, Breakbeats, Drum’n’Bass oder Elektro. Jede Kombination dieser und anderer Stile ist denkbar. Da Mr. Scruff nicht nur DJ und Produzent, sondern auch Grafiker und Cartoonist ist, freuen wir uns auch auf die Visuals die er uns mitbringen wird. Und weil er das Ganze schon so lange macht, hat er beschlossen, dass die Nacht um 20.00 Uhr beginnt und bis 02.00 Uhr dauert (Mr. Scruff: „I can’t handle the crazy late nights anymore!“). Als Produzent hat Mr. Scruff im Laufe der Jahre Tracks auf über 25 Labels veröffentlicht. Kleine Auswahl: 1995 sorgte er mit „Sea Mammal“ für Aufsehen bei DJs und Kritiker*innen. 1997 folgte die EP „Large Pies“ auf dem Cup of Tea Label in Bristol. 1999 erschien die Single „Get A Move On“, die auf einem Moondog-Sample („Bird’s Lament“) basierte und in zahlreichen Werbespots zu hören war. Mit „Keep It Unreal“ schuf er ein facettenreiches Album, das den Downbeat mit eingängigen Melodien aufpeppte. Mit „Trouser Jazz“ stürzte er sich in ein Abenteuer aus Disco, Funk, Jazz und 70er-Jahre-Geschmeidigkeit. „Friendly Bacteria“ brachte Disco-Anleihen, House-Experimente und typische Midtempo-Nu-Soul-Banger. Von Zeit zu Zeit lädt Mr. Scruff Gast-DJs ein, die seinen Enthusiasmus teilen, diesmal ist der in Berlin lebende DJ, Produzent und Weltenbummler moe. mit von der Partie. Ursprünglich aus dem Sudan stammend und in Abu Dhabi aufgewachsen, hat er zwischenzeitlich in New Orleans, Kuala Lumpur und Stockholm gelebt und ist nun in Berlin zu Hause. Seine Reisen haben ihn gelehrt: Egal wo du bist, Genres spielen keine Rolle, was zählt ist der Dancefloor. Seine Sets nehmen uns mit auf eine Reise durch tiefe, hypnotische Sounds, die von Techno bis hin zu organischen und experimentellen Elementen reichen. Nahtlos verbindet er treibende Grooves mit ausgeprägter Wärme und musikalischer Tiefe. Artwork: @ Mr. Scruff ___________________________________________________ Manchester-based Mr. Scruff is a producer, cartoonist and cross-genre selector who loves to play long DJ sets, and occasionally B2B sets with similarly wide-eared end excitable DJs. He has been DJing since 1984, and has been getting paid for it since 1994. His DJ sets can range from deep soul/funk/reggae/afro/jazz /latin/hip-hop to harder edged electro/house/new wave/techno /electronic all knitted together with supreme technical skill and a keen sense of fun. Over the years Mr.Scruff has released tracks on over 25 labels. Shortcut: With "Sea Mammal" he caused a big stir among DJs and critics in 1995. In 1997, he released the EP "Large Pies" on the Cup of Tea label in Bristol. In 1999, he released the single "Get A Move On," which was based on a Moondog sample ("Bird's Lament") and found its way into numerous commercials. With his album "Keep It Unreal", he created a multi-faceted album that revved up the downbeat with compelling melodies. With "Trouser Jazz," Mr. Scruff plunged into an adventure of disco, funk, jazz signals and '70s sleekness. "Friendly Bacteria" brought disco leanings and house experimentation and typical midtempo NuSoul bangers. From time to time, Mr. Scruff invites guest DJs who share his passion and musical curiosity. This time, he's joined by Berlin-based DJ, producer, and globetrotter moe. As a party lover, dancer, DJ, radio host, and community organiser, moe. is forever inspired by—and in love with—music and dance floors: the communal love, joy, and togetherness that radiate from the shared moments they create. A globetrotter at heart (having lived in Dubai, New Orleans, Kuala Lumpur, Stockholm, and Berlin), moe. has traveled the world in pursuit of the magical feeling dance floors can exude—a search that has proven that, regardless of location, genres don't matter. What matters is the feeling the music evokes, the soul poured into it, and the space one occupies within the collective experience, whether as a dancer, DJ, or organiser. This perspective heavily informs both moe.'s musical taste and the projects they organise and curate: as a resident of The Breakfast Show at Berlin’s online radio station Refuge Worldwide, co-host of Endless Groove (a non-profit Loft-inspired community party in Stockholm and Berlin), initiator of Black Is...
