STRAUSWERK: Contemporary Georgian Culture in Berlin

To much of the outside world, wine, food, folk music and traditional dance have long shaped how Georgian culture is perceived. And while all of that is part of the country's identity, there's another side of Georgia that rarely gets the same attention A generation of musicians, artists and performers has built a scene that is modern, outward-looking, and fiercely independent. From alternative bands and electronic musicians to visual artists and performers, this community has developed its own voice, often against considerable social and political pressure. At a time when artistic freedom and independent cultural spaces in Georgia face increasing challenges, bringing these voices together is especially important. On November 7, STRAUSWERK makes its debut at Haus der Visionäre in Berlin, bringing together artists from across Georgia's cultural spectrum - indie rock, psychedelic synth-pop, electronic music and club culture, alongside stand-up comedy, photography, sculpture and installations. STRAUSWERK isn't about presenting an idealized picture of a country. It's about sharing a part of Georgia that is alive, curious, outspoken and connected to the wider world — a vital and evolving community that continues to make music and art on its own terms. And, naturally, Georgian food and wine will be part of the mix.
