Sunburst Sound // Glór ga Gréine welcomes Lisbon's DJ MARFOX for his debut show in Ireland. Producer and DJ, Marfox is a legendary figure in Lisbon, and renowned worldwide network worldwide as a pioneer and dedicated seeker of new directions in electronic music. He is one of the key architects behind the Batida dance sound that emerged from Lisbon's Afro-diasporic youth culture in the early 2000s. Building on Luso-African sounds such as Kuduro and Funána as well as European and American Techno, Batida, meaning simply 'beat,' produced its own unique and highly generative field for percussive and rhythmically adventurous dance music. He has received accolades from various quarters of dance music culture for his pioneering work and music, published throughout the last decade on labels such as Lit City Trax, Boomkat Records, Warp Records and Príncipe, for which he is undoubtedly one of its founding architects Marfox has been playing DJ sets extensively in the last few years in Europe and the UK, visits to Brazil, Uganda, Angola, Russia and tours in the US, Canada, Mexico, Australia and East Asia. In 2023 he blessed Príncipe's abridged double vinyl LP edition of his original crew DJs Di Guetto compilation.
