About

The Manchester Bounce: A celebration of soundsystem culture. Dance Policy and SOUP, in partnership with Dr Martens, are celebrating the communities that built Manchester’s scene today - with an intergenerational lineup of artists hailing from the city’s suburbs of Hulme, Moss Side, Wythenshawe, and beyond. Alongside the music, we’re featuring an exhibition by Hulme’s staple photographer HulmeLoonies and a conversation hosted by Private Joy that examines the past, present, and future of Manchester’s soundsystem culture. Join us for an evening of music, photography, and discussion about the things that make our soles bounce. 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗬 An intergenerational dance across the two floors of SOUP. Featuring the historic figures who built Manchester’s musical legacy and the new generation building on it. For one night only, SOUP's basement is powered by Baron Turbo charge soundsystem, one of Manchester’s oldest foundational systems. From 21:15 in the bar and 22:00 across both floors. 𝗧𝗔𝗟𝗞 Manchester soundsystem culture past, present, and future. Hosted by Private Joy, the panel will look backwards through Manchester's soundsystem culture and forwards, bringing together voices from across generations to explore how the scene has evolved and where it is heading next. Featuring Errol (Baron Turbo Charge), Sylvia Tella, mamba.exe, and Chunky. Kicking off at 20:00 in the bar. Get down early to get settled in! 𝗘𝗫𝗛𝗜𝗕𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 Hulme, the cultural centre of Manchester. Few photographers have captured the spirit of a city’s suburb as well as Anni Kay, better known as Hulme Loonies. Kay’s work tells the story of a community resisting gentrification, as newly built skyscrapers loom over the town. From local squat raves, punks, soundsystems, to the wonderful faces of Hulme, Hulme Loonies is a visual archive of what it means to be a resident. The Manchester Bounce has invited Anni Kay to exhibit her work at SOUP, curated by local subculture magazine Dance Policy, to shine a light on one of Manchester’s most culturally significant towns and how it offers a different form of life. On display in the SOUP bar throughout the event and beyond. ***Entry requires a free RSVP ticket and may be subject to venue capacity..
