About
We’re putting on a free all-day party at Downcast Studios in Gateshead to say thanks for all your love and support. Our crowd make our event what it is. Curves crew. We salute you. Tickets are free. Make sure you get one. This one is on us. After a lot of planning, discussion, debate and pontification, we curated a lineup that takes in several generations, sub-genres and styles from the burgeoning Northeast underground Drum & Bass and Jungle community. This is going to be outstanding. We choose our DJs based on all kinds of factors. The one that matters the most is the music they play. Every person we selected for this event has a unique and distinctive approach to the craft. DJs who make alternative music feel like classics. Ruckuz and Spectra Legend has it that Spectra and Ruckuz were manufactured as prototypes during an unfinished science experiment in the late 20th century. The purpose and results of the experiment are still classified. The information is prohibited to protect the public. Unofficial sources mention everything from the singularity to string theory, but others maintain that they’re result of a bet between two drunk wizards. No one is quite sure. Both theories have credence. All we know is they’re joining forces for a signature style barrage of bass carnage that will close the event with a sonic boom. Lukey B and Parkin Lukey B has probably been DJing for longer than some of you have been alive. Watching him mix reminds you of that. He’s been part of the North’s thriving DnB underground since its inception and now runs Curves as part of the core crew. Newskool champion PRKN is one of the most skilful DJs in the Northrern underground. Known for his superspeed mixing and ballistic selections, he’s a regular at both Curves and the NCLbeats show. These two will be teaming up to provide you a post sunset soundtrack of deep, dark and deadly dnb. Minus Minus is another long-time member of the Curves family with more than 2 decades of DJing experience. He’s also producing and releasing his own music now. Most notably on Jubei’s record label, Carbon music. This is no small achievement, considering the label’s attention to quality control. There’s more to come very soon, too. His skill as a DJ has only improved over time. He thrives on blending rollers with funk, effortlessly switching subgenres and skilfully switching the vibe when you’re not looking. His sets are not to be missed. Amy Warehouse We’re welcoming Amy back to Curves after her epic, extended headline set at the Lubberfiend. As one of the most unique, diverse and professional DJs in the scene, she plays and selects like a person of twice her age, with double her experience. Selecting from a smorgasbord of esoteric jungle, dnb, hardcore, breaks and dubstep, she blends a broad spectrum of bass and breaks from across time periods, tempos and genres to create that truly unique warehouse vibe. Ellaz and SunRaze Sunraze co-hosts NCLBeats and regularly plays events and festivals around the North. Ellaz also plays events and festivals around the North, and regularly performs on the NCLbeats show. When we heard them go back to back one night, this decision essentially made itself. They work so well that their unplanned sets are as tight and professional as if they planned them in advance. Expect a tour de force of funk driven, deep, rolling dnb with classics, curveballs and a few surprises, too. Layla Lu Though most will know her as a NorthEast underground icon, Layla met us all many years ago as a Curves regular. One night she charmed her way into the DJ booth, picked up a microphone and started singing over a set. She’s been a friend ever since. We’re proud to welcome Layla back to Curves after her triumphant warmup set for us last year. Her infectious energy, carefully refined mixing skills and ability to diversify across multiple genres make her one of the most vibrant DJs in the North. Gareth Hocking This man should need no introduction, but I’m writing him one anyway because he’s one of the best DJs Newcastle has ever produced. As our resident warmup DJ for many, many years, Gareth thrives on experimentation, crossing genre boundaries and exploring the wider world of breaks below 170bpm. He now has a regular show on SUBFM. Like his sets, its always full of music you wish you already knew about. Don’t miss him. You’re guaranteed to discover something new. It’s what he does. Dempster and Walkman Our first two djs are regulars on the NCLbeats show and true soldiers of the scene. They have been supporting this music for over three decades on the dancefloor and their quality control and selections as DJs are always immaculate. They set their standards high and have endless respect for the craft, the culture and the crews who create it. The way they play reflects that. It’s a pleasure to have them with us. -- Boring safety regulations and practicalities like logistics mean you need a ticket to get in. They’re free. Get one. As soon as you can. Before they’re gone. Curves crew. You know what to do.
