Love To Dance x Milestones presents: Charlie Dark [3-Hour Set]

About

Born in South London, Charlie Dark MBE came up in the early eighties through a world of pirate radio, hip hop, house parties and the early jazz dance scene. Forty years on and he has become a pioneering selector of Black music: from dub to Chicago house, the transatlantic disco sound and deep African rhythms, playing "all forms of music in one room - the way it used to be!" Love To Dance and Milestones are incredibly excited to bring this Charlie Dark to Sheffield for a 3-hour set in The System: a brand new, 200-capacity venue run by Apricot Ballroom’s Nonna Fab, with a warm OHM sound system perfect for capturing Charlie's amazing record collection. With sets ranging from the legendary Plastic People to his own Blacktronica parties, Charlie Dark’s musical range knows few boundaries. His flagship show 'Peace, Positivity and Blessings' on Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM introduced his skill as a broadcaster and selector to a wider audience. Charlie Dark has made appearances at festivals such as We Out Here, A Love Supreme and Giant Steps and shared the decks with some of the greats: Mr Scruff, Norman Jay MBE and Mikey D.O.N, to name a few. With his current residency at North London’s Voices Radio, Charlie Dark continues the tradition of using broadcasting as a vehicle for the positive message at the heart of his music. Charlie Dark is a selector who puts his heart and soul into reading and responding to a crowd, always with a genuine connection to the people in front of him. He is equally comfortable behind the decks or on the microphone, engaging the crowd, unifying the dancefloor and sharing his enthusiasm for music with the room. Come to get your mind opened and your soul uplifted. Special guest selector Anisa will be joining for the evening, with residents Ash Grimshaw, Sirrey and Mucho Maas warming up proceedings. Get your tickets early - this is a rare opportunity to catch a legendary DJ in an intimate space!
