About
High Tide and Standard Time present Effy's Toronto debut on July 25, alongside Sel, Sasha Kalra and Choirboi. Sophie "Effy" Cooper has quickly become one of the most compelling new voices in UK club music. Raised near Blackpool, the producer, DJ, Rinse FM resident and Fragrance Recordings co-founder has spent the last five years building a sound rooted in high-energy breaks, electro and UK bass -- one that's taken her from her 2020 Mixmag-premiered debut single to sold-out headline tours across Europe, Australia and North America. Fabric, Parklife, The Warehouse Project, Amnesia Ibiza -- she's played them all, with support sets for Helena Hauff and Honey Dijon along the way. Her 2022 debut EP Not What It Seems earned coverage in DJ Mag, Notion and Metal, but it was her explosive set at 12,000-capacity Boiler Room Sydney that announced her on a global scale -- a tracklist built almost entirely from her own productions, including the then-unreleased "iluv" with Mall Grab, one of the year's most celebrated dance records. The track became the first release on Fragrance Recordings, the label she co-founded with Mall Grab, which now hosts releases from emerging artists across the world. Her 2025 EP The Syndicate -- a three-track homage to coming of age in Blackpool -- cements a trajectory that shows no signs of slowing. July 25 is her first time in Toronto. Support comes from Sel, founder of Seasix Records, who continues to make waves in Toronto's underground with her bass-forward production and selections. Her latest single "Panda" has already earned early support from Skin on Skin. High Tide co-founders Sasha Kalra and Choirboi bring the night full circle. Sasha Kalra is a Toronto-based DJ and producer whose sets draw from UK garage, deep house and breakbeat, with original edits and a focus on South Asian sounds woven throughout. He's played direct support for KETTAMA, Sam Alfred, IDEMI, Ahadadream and Baalti at some of Toronto's most respected underground venues, and followed international sets and radio appearances in London, Seoul and Tokyo with his debut EP Two Floors in 2024. Choirboi is a Toronto-based DJ whose club-focused, bass-forward selections have made him a regular across the city's underground, taken him to Sojourn Festival, and most recently to stages in the UK. Together they've built High Tide from a one-off Toronto party in 2022 into events across Toronto, Montreal and London -- with their last two headline debuts, X-Coast and Tommy Holohan, both selling out. July 25 at Standard Time. Doors at 10pm.
