Best Music Festivals in the USA for 2027 (Plan Your Crew Now)

August Is When 2027 Festival Planning Starts
The 2026 flagships have wrapped, your camera roll is full, and the first 2027 dates are public before the recap reels stop. Coachella confirmed both of its April 2027 weekends months before anyone printed a lineup. Ultra Miami locked in late March. Most other majors had not announced 2027 dates at the start of August 2026, so expect a slow drip of announcements, presales and lineup drops over the next half year.
Book early and you pay less: presale tiers start cheap and climb, and flights cost less six months out than six weeks out. Book early and you also settle the question that kills more festival plans than money does: who you're going with. Tickets drop before lineups now, so commit to your people and your weekend first. The lineup is the last thing you'll learn anyway.
Still Time in 2026: The Fall Run
Skip the 2027 wait if you have a free weekend this fall.
Louder Than Life (September 17-20, Kentucky Exposition Center, Louisville) stacks close to 200 artists across seven stages, with TOOL, Pantera and Megadeth up top. Four days of rock and metal at a scale most summer festivals can't match.
Sea.Hear.Now (September 19-20, Asbury Park, New Jersey) brings The Strokes, Goo Goo Dolls and Fontaines D.C. to the sand. An easy trip if you're basing out of New York.
Oceans Calling (September 25-27, Ocean City, Maryland) puts Twenty One Pilots, Gwen Stefani and Dave Matthews Band on a boardwalk. The venue is a beach town, which does a lot of the work.
Lunatic Ball Beach Weekend (October 23-25, Seascape Resort, Miramar Beach, Florida) is Shinedown's new festival. A first edition, so there are no veterans around to tell you it used to be better.
EDC Orlando (November 6-8, Tinker Field) is the late entry: dance music in shirtsleeve weather while the rest of the country digs out jackets.
The 2027 Anchors: Coachella and Ultra Miami
Two majors have shown their hand.
Coachella returns to Indio, California on April 9-11 and April 16-18, 2027. Same desert, two weekends, and a ticket that sells on trust because the poster lands later. If you're flying in, add a night or two either side and check what's on in Los Angeles around your weekend; April tour routing is kind to that city.
Ultra Miami runs March 26-28, 2027 in downtown Miami. No camping, no mud, big-room dance music three days straight, then you sleep in an actual bed. If your crew includes one person who refuses tents, this is the compromise.
The Big Returns to Watch
Four majors have 2027 editions in motion without confirmed dates. Watch these windows.
Bonnaroo is listed for Great Stage Park in Manchester, Tennessee, dates TBA. The Farm is the American camping festival archetype: four days with your tent as home base and your campsite as the social unit.
Electric Forest has a 2027 edition listed, dates TBA. It runs at Double JJ Ranch in Rothbury, Michigan, and the 2026 edition ran June 25-28, so pencil in late June. String lights in an actual forest and the heaviest camping culture on this list.
Lollapalooza owns the late-July window in Grant Park, Chicago. The 2026 edition ran July 30 to August 2, and 2027 dates were unannounced as of early August 2026. It's the easiest major to do without gear: downtown site, day tickets, your bed within walking or transit distance.
EDC Las Vegas ran May 15-17, 2026 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, with 2027 dates still to come. The schedule runs dusk till dawn, so plan your sleep like a night-shift worker and book a room with blackout curtains.
Camping Crews, City Weekends, Destination Trips
Match the festival to how you travel, because the format sets how much time you'll spend with your crew.
Camping festivals (Bonnaroo, Electric Forest) are the highest commitment and the highest return. You live beside your people for four days: cooking, queueing for showers, debriefing sets at 3am. A flaky crew hurts most here, and a solid one turns the campsite into the best part of the ticket. The culture skews welcoming; camp solo and your neighbors adopt you inside a day.
City festivals (Lollapalooza, Ultra) run on the lowest logistics. Hotel or a friend's couch, day tickets if you want them, and you leave when your feet give out. The best format for a first solo festival, since the exit is a short ride away rather than a mile of dark field.
Destination festivals (Coachella, EDC Las Vegas) are holidays with a festival inside them. Flights, rooms and the weekend itself all need booking months out, so have the crew conversation now, in August, before you pay for a seat someone's "maybe" never fills.
If your budget stretches past a domestic flight, the European calendar for 2027 runs on the same announce-now, lineup-later rhythm.
Going to a Festival Alone: How People Find Their Crew
Wait for friends to commit and you miss the festival. Solo festival-going has its own playbook, and we wrote it up for festivals and for regular gigs: pick a format with a soft exit, camp somewhere social, treat day one as recon.
The harder problem is finding your people before the weekend, and that part is what Muse is for. Open an event and you see who's going, including who's going solo, before you buy a ticket. Each event has a group chat, so the "anyone doing Friday?" conversation starts months early instead of in a parking lot. If you want a unit for the weekend, start a crew or join one already forming; each crew runs its own chat. Matching works on music taste and on shared events, so the people you meet are the ones queueing for the same sets. The community is 18+, which fits, because so is the rave.

FAQ
When do 2027 US festival lineups get announced?
Dates come first, lineups later. Coachella and Ultra both confirmed 2027 dates with no lineup attached, and that pattern holds across the majors: tickets go on sale on the strength of the brand, and the poster arrives months afterward. If you need the lineup before you commit, you'll pay a later, higher price tier for the privilege.
What is the biggest music festival in the USA?
Depends on your measure. Coachella runs two full weekends in the desert and dominates the cultural conversation each April. EDC Las Vegas fills a motor speedway after dark. Lollapalooza takes over Grant Park in downtown Chicago. Pick by the crowd you want to stand in; none of the three feels small from inside it.
Which US festivals still happen in late 2026?
Louder Than Life (September 17-20, Louisville), Sea.Hear.Now (September 19-20, Asbury Park), Oceans Calling (September 25-27, Ocean City, Maryland), Lunatic Ball Beach Weekend (October 23-25, Miramar Beach, Florida) and EDC Orlando (November 6-8, Tinker Field). Five weekends between mid-September and early November, all still on sale in August.
Is it fun to go to a music festival alone?
Yes, with the right format. City festivals give you a soft exit whenever you want one, and camping festivals surround you with neighbors who share food, shade and set times. The full breakdown is in our guide to going to a festival alone.
How far in advance should I buy festival tickets?
As close to the date announcement as your budget allows. US majors sell in price tiers, each one costing more than the last, so the cheapest ticket you will ever see is the presale one. Payment plans spread the cost if the lump sum stings. The catch: buying early means committing before the lineup exists, which is one more reason to sort your crew in August instead of refreshing a poster in January.
Whoever ends up beside you at the rail, the plan starts with knowing who's in. Muse puts the who's-going numbers, the event chats and the crews in one place, with a live map of music people near you by area. Get the app and start the group chat before the presale opens.
